Dean Fraser tours globally sharing life-affirming stories and poetry, imparted with his natural calm and gentle warmth. He writes from the heart feeling his role as a poet is to get out of his own way and let the words flow through him from his higher self or source.

Earlier in his poetic career Dean travelled extensively performing shows at literary events, festivals and libraries; he still loves performing for live audiences whenever his schedule will alllow. He spent a while as resident poet on a local TV channel. Since 2017 Dean Fraser has hosted his syndicated arts and culture radio show Beyond Poetry, which is heard across the UK via a network of local community radio stations.

The poet sought to look beyond only the beauty of the lakes to explore the arts and heritage upon which the greatness of the county is built. Here we have the stories of people. Both tales of famous Cumbrians or those who’s exploits focussed the attention of the world on the region and sitting alongside poems telling of ordinary people getting to have their story told for the first time.

Cumbria’s industrial past and present provided ample inspiration. There are poetic journeys telling of The poet's own personal perspective on the county he has been visiting since a small boy. He pays homage to some of the creative geniuses who found themselves also inspired by Cumbria.

Although he looked beyond the lakes, they are never easily ignored and get to take centre-stage in more than a few poems in the collection! 2020

The industrial past. Stories of real people. Arts and culture. History and contemporary life. Merseyside provides almost an embarrassment of riches enough to inspire any poet! Dean Fraser sought for these poetic tales to do justice to the uniqueness of Merseyside and all the while during the writing of this collection his sense of humour was never too far away (he feels it must be imprinted within the DNA of the region!)

The poet came to appreciate and genuinely love Merseyside as he wrote this collection during the Covid-19 lockdown of spring 2020. Inspired by places he had visited over the years and tales of people encountered along the way. Some of these are people he actually met; others are those who left their mark on history now brought to life once more through the power of words. 2020.

Inspired and written about places the poet came to know while living in Cheshire for some fifteen years or on his trips back to visit the County. A walk around Chester Walls experiencing echoes of the past, exploring the leafy countryside, a cricket match in Prestbury and a night spent at the Edge in Alderley, finding seclusion amidst the hustle and bustle of life, a visit to Tatton one summer’s day, and poetic homages to the rich industrial history and natural beauty of Cheshire. Although he has lived in many places since, the poet always feels a part of his heart belongs to Cheshire and when he finds himself there it does feel like coming back home.

Dean Fraser says he sees his poetic tales as windows offering glimpses into a frozen moment of time, rather like seeds trapped in amber. 2014

Over the course of nearly a decade Dean Fraser had accumulated a vast file of unpublished poetry. Perhaps they did not quite fit into the theme of existing collections or they were simply too personal at the time to share. Having been finally persuaded to allow some of this lost poetry to be made public, Dean went through his own archive to personally select his most compelling unseen poetry to be shared in this collection. Such is the freedom the poet felt, he even included a film noir influenced short story to conclude the book!
